But is it Art?

Is there a expressible formula to such a collective unconscious expression? Is the "art" entirely in the beholder's eye?
These questions inhabit the general geography of similar questions; questions such as: "If a tree falls in a forest and nobody hears it, does it make a sound?"
My cousin, Allison--when she was twelve years and I was twenty-two--wrote me a letter from summer camp. One of her counselors had revealed to her that eternally fascinating (especially when you're twelve years old) thought about trees falling, people hearing the fall, and the "noise" it makes falling...
I think the quantifiable existence of any piece of "art" lies somewhere in the invisible territory between the work itself and the perception of the beholder.
